This book is the second in the Dido Kent series.  This time, Dido is playing companion to her cousin Flora while Flora’s husband is away on business.  A gossiping neighbor sets out to convince the town that the recent death of an older lady was not an accident, and that this woman’s nephew was to blame.  Miss Kent’s investigations uncover a multitude of secrets about almost every resident in the small town.

I was again amazed by Anna Dean’s ability to string together so many secrets within the lives of her characters.  Almost every character looks guilty at some point, but though they are all hiding something, they are not guilty of killing an old lady.   Now, off to start the third book of the series…
